It was also a stopover for the Slave and Ivory Caravans who traveled from Lake Tanganyika to Zanzibar. Bagamoyo offers countless attractions that will keep you busy. Basically, it is a day to acclimatize. Let us know if you wish to go on a historical tour or relaxing on the beach.

DAY 03 – SAFARI TO SAADANI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, your private safari guide will drive to Saadani National Park, located on the coast. It is the only bush-meets-beach wildlife sanctuary in East Africa making it wonderfully unique and absolutely ideal for a visit since you rarely come across other vehicles. This beachfront national park offers activities such as boat cruises on the Wami River through Mangrove forests, where you will see hippos and crocodiles as well as a variety of water birds. Canoeing in the dry season is a very relaxing activity, giving you the opportunity to watch birds at your leisure such as Flamingos, Little Bittern, Lanner Falcon, Beteleurs eagles, and African fish eagles which frequent the Wami River.

Visiting Saadani fishing village which lies within the park, you will also see the historical ruins of the 19th-century major trading port. Another unforgettable historical safari experience. After the sundowner, you will get back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation, and overnight.

DAY 04 – ADVENTURE TO AMANI NATURE RESERVE

Spend your final morning in the bush enjoying a final game drive and breakfast before heading to Amani nature reserve for more adventure. The Amani nature reserve is a biodiversity hotspot and Tanzania’s first nature reserve. This utopia is home to a multitude of endemic species- rare butterflies, birds, reptiles, flora, and fauna. This unique habitat extends from sea level at Tanga city on the coast of the Indian Ocean 150 kilometers inland to the mountains which rise rapidly to 950 meters above sea level.

The wealth of species that call Usambara home includes the black and white colobus monkey, Jackson’s three-horned chameleon, the Flambo three with its edible fruits, and St Vallencious a tree that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Here will be your home for two nights. After dinner, you will set out for a walking night safari departing from Amani forest camp- Emau Hill to find endemic species of Chameleons, Insects, Birds, and Tree frogs. This can be an amazing activity for children of all ages.

DAY 05 – EXPLORING AMANI NATURE RESERVE

There are so many things to do in this spectacular nature reserve, hiking through the forest and swimming under the waterfalls, visiting a butterfly farm, and bird watching. The East Usambara Mountains are one of the most important sites on the African mainland for the conservation of globally threatened birds species: Bubo vosselei, Otus ireneae, Orthotomus Moreau, Modulatrix orostruthus, Swynnertonia swynnertoni, and Ploceus nicolli. We find them at lower altitudes only in a few places. After a long active day, you will enjoy a delicious dinner at the camp, relaxation, and a good night.

DAY 06 – DISCOVER THE BEAUTY OF MKOMAZI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, it’s time to hit the road to Mkomazi National Park. This park has a truly spectacular wilderness! It provides a common base for migratory herds and has a classic arid national park where a visit to the Rhino sanctuary gives you the chance to see the endangered black rhino. It is among the few protected areas in Tanzania with a large and visible population of Gerenuk and a massive concentration of Beisa Oryx. Here you will spend two nights just exploring the wilderness of Mkomazi national park.

DAY 07 – EXPLORE MKOMAZI NATIONAL PARK

On this special day, you will have an opportunity to spend the whole day in this extraordinary national park. Amazing activities like walking safaris escorted by a knowledgeable armed park Ranger or a hiking safari can be arranged for you either early in the morning or in the evening along different pathways, a great opportunity to get close to nature and enjoy the spectacular views which this park offers.

DAY 08 & 09 – KILIMANJARO REGION & AROUND

After breakfast, you will drive to Kilimanjaro. There are so many attractions in this region. All around Mount Kilimanjaro is the most beautiful scenery. You can choose to stay two nights in this impressive region and be immersed in its fantastic attractions.

Explore the beautiful Materuni Waterfall 45 minutes from Moshi town by car, at an altitude of 1300m above sea level. The Materuni waterfall is a cascade of crystal clear glacier water which falls 80 meters into its basin. Along the way, you’ll pass the coffee, banana, and avocado farms, all located in a tropical rainforest.

The hike to the base of the waterfall can be demanding and hiking boots are recommended. A cultural experience such as seeing banana beer being brewed or coffee roasted the traditional way can be added to your hike. From Materuni village we will walk some 45 Minutes to the waterfall. The walk itself is extremely interesting since you will get an opportunity to see some small waterfalls and lots of waterways which are part of the irrigation system of the local farmers who grow coffee, bananas, and many other fruits and vegetables.

A visit to Kikuletwa Hot Spring, this hidden paradise in the desert scrub- outside the town of Boma. The ride to the hot springs takes about an hour and 30 minutes and leads partly over bumpy slopes. Enjoy a wonderful afternoon at your leisure, dozing in the sun, chatting with the locals at the small local bar or swimming. Here you can have as much fun or relaxation as your heart desires and your mind and body need.

The water is so clear that you can easily see the big boulders and tree roots at the bottom of the lake. The temperature is around 27°C (81°F) ideal for swimming and relaxing. It can be as deep as 6 to 10 meters. We recommend you pack your swimsuit. Before sunset, we will drive back to the hotel for dinner, relaxation, and bedtime.

DAY 10 – OFF TO LAKE CHALA

After a two hours drive to Lake Chala, you’ll arrive at the crater’s edge to take in the breathtaking views of the tropical forest and the lake, Baboons are very likely to be seen on the way. You may go kayaking on the lake while admiring the magnificent African scenery. Mt Kilimanjaro will be seen in its grandeur on the walk back to the camp.

This unique and ancient Caldera Lake lies some 30km southeast of Kilimanjaro (52 km from Moshi) and is 95 meters deep, which makes it deeper than Lake Victoria. It was believed to be the Caldera of the first volcanic eruption some three-quarters of a million years ago. Recent geological research assumes that a magma chamber under Lake Chala collapsed after an eruption of nearby volcanoes and that the collapse created the space for the crater lake.

At Lake Chala you can do fantastic birdwatching since this place is regarded as a significant migratory corridor and surprising species can be spotted here during migration season.
